steering column repairs

Post by qmcdugan »

70 F100, power steering, automatic transmission.

I need a link to a post or steps and tools required regarding removal of the column to effect repairs to what I suspect is a break at or near the shift lever where it exits the column.

I have a Chilton's 61 -71 Truck manual. Unfortunately it does not address the removal of the column.

Linkage from the shift lever to the trans lever is good. Reaching over into the engine compartment I can clearly see both levers and linkage. From park position I can push the shift lever into each successive position with the ease. There is no corresponding movement of the Shift selector lever in the cab. The bar/shaft connecting the two is of course inside the column and not visible.

Welcome from Okla and try driving the roll pin out of the shift lever and check the end of it sounds like its broke there. You might just save your self a lot of work. If thats not the prob then remove the steering wheel and turn signal cam switch and check the shifter bowl it might be broke inside of it. A friend of mine just had to replace his on his dentside. new part $45 shipping included from blue oval. The part was at my door in 2-3 days i was expecting more like a week till it got there.

Thanks for the replys Guys I've been holding off due in part to to the lack of info and expected degree of difficulty. I'll be working on it this coming week end. Also I found the section on this site regarding the steering conversion from Standard to Power which is very helpful.
