cab swap: keeping the same dash?

Post by steve59136 »

My 67' needs some rocker panel work and needs floors. I have my eye on a 68' that I could use be someone told me that I would have to keep the 68' dash in the truck because its all one piece. the controls in the 68' are different than mine so what should? Can I cut out the dash from the 67 and put it in the 68? If I want the 68 cab am I stuck with the different heater control design? Please help.

sure you could cut just the heater control section out and weld it into the dash of the 68.

Is that the only difference between the two years? One other question that I have. the frame ends that are in front of the support under the oil pan are bent to the side
after a wreck last week should I try to bend them back or cut off the ends of the 68' frame and weld it in place? I can provide pictures to help you aid in the recommendation. If I can figure out how to put pictures on this page. I also have them at.

i think i would try to bend them back first. if that fails then you could cut and reweld themm but i think bending them back would probably work ok. the only hold the core support and the bumper. the onlt cab difeences are the heater controls for the dash and of course the doors are also different.

Fordman thank you for your help. When you say the doors are different do you just mean the door panels or is it the whole door? How do you recommend I bend them back?
I have photos on my Myspace page so you can see the damage.

The heater area of the dash is different. You could switch that area. Also, you could cut the whole dash out and replace it with a 67. The doors are completely different. The release mechanism is different. It has the turn release, not a pull handle. That is lots of trouble to do anything for. I would re-ues the doors from the 67 if I wanted correct looking doors.
