Lowering
I know this isn't the correct way to lower the twin I-beam front axles. Anyone lowered the front 2 inches by cutting springs. I know Keith addressed this in his lowering page, but I would like to see pics. Also I wondered how much cut off it takes to lower that much. I am going to put a 77 disc front end in it and I want to lower it as I put that in. I want as little trial and error as possible, so I need o good estimate to go with. If anyone has experience with this, I'd really appreciate input.

re: Lowering
There's nothing wrong with cutting the coils to lower the front end, as long as you use something like a cut-off tool (or even a hack saw) to minimize heat build-up, which will destroy the temper in the springs and ruin them.
Keep in mind that cutting the springs will negatively affect the camber. Since the camber is set at the factory and not easily adjustable the only correct way of fixing this is to find a shop capable of bending the I-beams.
On my choptop I cut two full coils from the front springs and it did lower it several inches, but I can't give you any more specific details on the exact amount of drop, since I did it without an engine/transmission installed. I'd guess that two full coils dropped it between 2" and 2-1/2".

re: Lowering
Ezernut, Yhanks for the info. How much did it lower the rear when you flipped the shackle mounts?
