67 rear larger rear brake swap

in a recent thread someone mentioned getting rid of the smaller 67 rear brakes. i have the stuff to swap over the wider brake drums and shoes and all the hardware i would need. my question is would the brakes be too wide for the 67 backing plate to axle distance. the 68 brakes are 2 1/4 inches where as the 67 brakes are 1 3/4 inches. would the drums fit properly on to the axle and not hit or ride over the backing plate?

The 68's backing plates might be offset the 1/2 inch. I thought that some of the dana 60 were that way. Doug
