My 70 custom was stored on a concrete floor inside a building,but the roof
was collasped Therfore most of my rust damage is top down as opposed to a field find that is rust up. My frame is rusted(of course),but is
flakie not hardcore. Has anyone ever tried the eastwood products? The rust dissolvers or Encapsulator's that they offer? I know the traditional way
would be sandblasting,but I really don't want try a set up at my house(just read the sandblasting thread)right now. I have access to sandblasters & blast cabinets--fine for the smaller parts. Anybodys would be appreciated.

mine is flaky. i plan on using a l head grinder with a wire wheel on it to get most of it off. than i mihgt have to take it to a place to get the rest sandblastered i dont know yet. i hope i can wire brush it all down and then seal and paint it with something.

lookin at doing the same thing gonna get a dewalt angle grinder and a twisted wire disk or 2 and decide on eastwood or POR-15 should take 2 qts to be safe on the frame and whatever else i find

Hey 67mann...

I just did my front frame, inner fenders and fire wall with Eastwood's Rust Encapsulator... You see the finish on my thread '68 CS Project.
It goes on well and requires minimal prep.
Wire brushing loose rust scale, wash with laquer thinner and paint.
I brushed mine on with good results, though it can be thinned with laquer thinner and sprayed.


You can use it by itself or top coat it after it's dry.

I top coated with Rustolium Satin Black... it looks really nice





However, it hasn't proven itself to me yet...
I am waiting until I see what kind of service it gives me.
I bought a second quart to do the floor boards with before I do a patch job on them...

I replaced the spring hangers and gas tank on my DD a few years ago.I scraped the worst of the rust then ran over it with wire cup brush on an angle grinder.Then I brushed 2 coats of Rustoleum rusty metal primer then 2 coats of Rustoleum gloss black over that.It's holding up fine.Rustoleum has some kind of fish oil in it.I don't know what it is but it stands up to PENNDOT road salt.

I'm going to have all my stuff sandblasted and wouldn't bother even trying to set it up at home. I just found a heavy equipment painter to do it for me, every town has one. They make so much money on the big stuff they don't usually mind cutting a guy with an old truck a break. I'll have my cab, box, doors, hood and tail gate blasted and epoxy coated for under $600 and it'll be done in one weekend to boot
