Update on my '69 shorty.

Hello everyone. Just thought I'd share some recent photos of my new bump. Some of you may remember seeing my truck when I first brought it home in December and what I have planned for it. Well, I started cleaning it up and pulled back the carpet, padding, cigarette butts, etc. and found the cab's floor to be rusted pretty bad. It was much worse than I thought and for some reason, I had missed much of it when I bought it. Now, the floor is repairable and I feel I could do it but man, what a mess! First of all, I wanted to keep this a driver and have very little down time (replacing a floor would not fit this at all). So, I searched my local 'pull it yo' self' yard and found an ultra clean and nearly perfect '72 cab. It was basically 100% complete (instrument cluster, heater and controls, wiper motor/linkage,arms, fuel tank, seat belts, visors, much more) except for a seat and doors for $150!!! The windshield is cracked too but good for now. It took a few friends and me about 2 hours to pull it and set it on a trailer and I've spent roughly 25 hours on it this week to get it as you see it in these pics. Enjoy.

I love two-tone but this white roof has got to go! It looks too much like a '69 state trooper F100!

Of course, I still need to drop it about 3-4" all the way around and put my '75-'78 front supension with discs & DJM 3" beams on but that's another day. Whew! I'm WAY tired now but I've got a big smile on my face!!!

way to go looks like your doing it right. looks like a super truck and that cab ! man what a find run back and get the inner and outer fenders if there that nice. anyway looks sharp love those steelies. got a 72 s.b. im working on got the aim industries dropped beams and cut the coils. sets nice. yours makes me want to start over . but really am farther along in life =older anyway enjoy that truck and your family. As far as the front clip, the fenders weren't that great. It looks to me like the donor truck had a fender bender once upon a time as the passenger side was banged up on the front. If I remember correctly, they both had the typical rust through bubbles started on the bottom. The grille was absolute trash (again, from a small accident). The inner fenders had the rust through starting too at the hinge mount location. Luckily, I had already made several trips to that yard prior to getting the cab and got a nice pair of inners, a core support, and a near perfect right fender (my original left is good!).
Hey Kaptn, the lettering (if I ever get to it!) WILL be red and white and then sanded lightly to show a little age. Thanks for the feedback! The white roof is definitely turning black though. Otherwise, Mugwump's gotta make me another design and I'll have to buy more shirts!
And ezernut, believe it or not.....now don't laugh anyone.....I'm painting the whole thing with Krylon semi-flat black bomb cans!!! I'm roughing up the original paint with my DA sander and a Scotchbrite pad and laying on many coats. Now, understand that this is to be my "rat rod"/shop truck and low budget was one of my main goals. At ~$3.00 a can, the spray paint is definitely keeping me under budget! My other main goal is to keep the down time to a minimum which is why I took some time off work to accomplish what I did in just a couple days. I'm very sore and I'm feeling my age for sure greenmeanie!
Someday, when my '56 is rollin' under its own power, I'll turn my attention back to the '69 for a more extensive and detailed rebuild but for now, it's going to be one fun ride to take to local rod runs and cruise nights!
By the way, it's going to have full length headers with 3" collectors and Flowmaster 40 series mufflers! Ooooooo, I can't wait to hear it rumble!
