Bendix?

Post by cancow »

Newbie question here... Looking at my steering linkage i cannot tell if i have a bendix ps box with no hoses or pump or a manual steering box. It kind of looks like a bendix to me (pretty big, similar shape) but i dont know what a manual steering box looks like. I have seen some bendix pictures but they are always at the wrong angle to get a similar view. Do manual boxes have that mount for the brake lines?

It has a brake line mount and the inputs might be pluged with bolts. I am not sure. what also confuses me is that there is no pully spot if there was a ps pump. My alternatory has double belts though. could they have used the PS pully for another alt. belt instead?? I know campers specials have the heavy duty alt but did that also mean double belts?

OK. It is stamped on the front 'FMC' 80A. Also there is a tag on one of the bolts 'SMA E' '7D1 I' Ford Motor Company? Steering Manual??? Is there a picture of a manual steering box? It is not quite the same as the bendix but seems like a variation on it. It also has the big A shaped braket that at the top braces 2 brake lines but it bolts on different than the bendix pics you have. :?
