Lowering questions

Post by doctorcharles08 »

I am thinking of lowering my 69 F 100 with the DJM I-beams to drop it three inches then using the coil springs that lower it an additional 2 inches in front. Then for the rear using the shackle relocators from DJM and removing the bottom leaf (don't remember what it is called exactly) to do about 5 inches total in the rear. Would this cause any problems in my suspension or any negative camber?

the lowering springs in the front will cause some negitive camber. as far as the rear goes, i have about 3" of drop and there is still plenty of travel left in the suspension. i don't know about 5" though. you will have to change your pinion angle for sure.

I figured I was going to have to change that on the rear. Do you have pics of your truck lowered? I am going to a particular look and wasn't sure if I needed to drop it that much. How can I correct the negative camber?

If you click on ez's photobucket link on the bottom of his post you can see his truck, the yellow one. If I remember correct he cut his front springs a wee bit and flipped his rear spring perch. If I wasn't at work and had more time I would go look for the thread he posted on that. Anyway, his truck sits nice in my opinion and the negative camber is minimal.

To answer one of your questions though, if you use dream beams and also cut your spring, as ez said you will get negative camber and I have yet to hear of an alinement shop that will touch after market I-beams to correct the camber.

If you want to go lower then the drop attained with dream beams, you will probably have to go with an IFS set up or something like that. But I really don't have much experience with suspension stuff, so hopefully others will give you better input then I can.

Cool thanks guys. I think what I am going to do it get the dream beams and get flip the rear spring perch then go from there if I want it lower I will cut or buy springs considering the camber is only minimal I am not going to worry about it to much and remove the helper leaf if I need to lower the rear more. Man I would be lost with out some of your guys' help.

Thanks!
