cowl vent

Post by peanutman »

Is there a way to get all the leaves and crude out of the cowl vent compartment. I don't see anyway of removing a panel to gain access.

I need to do this as well... mine is full of pine needles and crap. Most people recommend blasting it with a pressure washer and/or shop vac, but I don't see how I'm going to get it all out that way without washing a bunch of water into my cab somehow.

Yea im thinking te same thing. I know there are like three plugs in the cowl area. two round under dash and one oval right in middle in engine compartment. But i would think since you get some ventilation from there you would also get water in the cab.

Hey peanutman...

Could you use some chopstick practice???
No water no mess...
I use mine all the time for stuff like that...
I even use them for eating... :D Did someone say sushimi ???

You could probably also use a shop vac with one of the long narrow tips...

I was actually thinking of fastening the end of my shop vac to the cowl vent hole in the center of the firewall under the hood, and then using my leaf blower to somehow try and blow the crap into the shop vac. The probem is, because of the pine needles, I think the shop vac would get jammed up too easy.

I wonder has anyone tried neatly enlarging the hole so you can get a vac hose up in there. I live where we have lots of trees and this will be a constant problem.

Mine was full of pine needles when i bought it, what i did was take fork and dug down in cowl, with a shop vac a-on top and just stired up the needls and it came out easy. Then when you have it down low open the vents and put on some goggles and hit the interstate, it will blow the rest of it out.

Or remove the vent hardware out of both sides in the cab... can literally reach into that hole and/or use shop vac. While vents are off, can blow the junk in cowl down into that area to get it out. Of course, this procedure works best when all the crap you're trying to remove is totally dry.

Guy's When I had the inner fenders off and all that rubber I put my hole arm in the cowl. I think you can take off the rubber thats in the wheel well and get the stuff out I can't remenber if that will work. but I know if you have ever thing off you can get to it easy!
