core support removal

Post by 1971ford »

i have every bolt out of the inner fenders and core support. its all being held to gether by the bottom of the core support where it is stuck to the bushings. how do i get the core support free from the bushings? remember the bolt is still stuck in there, but the nuts are off.

here is a pic. (i have gotten that nut off allready, with a 4ft long metal pipe for leverage on a ratchet :D )

the sooner i get this removed the soone the engine is rebuilt

Man, that nut/bolt was a candidate for a couple days of soaking in PB Blaster... might have made life a little easier, like only a 2' pipe necessary. :P

Soak well with PB.
Tried hammering the bolt upwards or spinning it?

Almost forgot to mention... the core support and front cab mounts are just sleeved (no threads), the rear cab mounts are the ones with threads in the lower bushing metal.

Hey 1971ford,

I just removed the core support out of my '68 CS...
After making sure all the nuts and bolts were removed, I used a crow bar to get between the frame and and just pryed up un it and it came loose.
After doing that on both sides, it came right out.

WOW, the boy listens to his old man. I told him that if he has the entire front end off, we might as well yank the motor out and rebuild it. I hope I don't regret suggesting that. Won't be my first engine rebuild, though.

well i was able to get the drivers side bolt out with the airgun, but not the passenger side. and i couldnt find a way to get leverage with a crowbar.
i took the inner fenders off by gently tilting the core support an inch forward so i could lift them out.
then i got my bar and put it on the ratchet and broke my extension on my ratchet.
so im stuck as far as getting the cowl off still.
maybe my dad can think of something

whats PB blaster stand for?
