Newb from Calif saying hi (pics 01-28-08)

Post by mr1030 »

Hello all, wanted to introduce myself and say what a fantastic site this is from what ive seen of it in the last couple days since I found it. I have a 1971 F250 Custom Camper Special, 360ci, with the Explorer Special trim package. It was my Dad's truck, and he gave it to me when he recently moved to a new house and didnt want to take it with him. I remember when he bought it brand new in '71 when I was 6 yrs old, so the old beast almost seems like a part of the family. I couldn't stand the idea of him just getting rid of it when he moved, so I took it off his hands. I get alot of ribbing from friends and co-workers cuz its got primer patches and just shows its age. But I remember what it used to look like, and I'd like to bring it back to looking more like it did in its glory days. VIN plate says color is Lime Gold Metallic w/ Explorer Green trim, which might be a problem replacing but who knows.

In any case, I've really enjoyed what I've read on the site so far and I'm looking forward to talking with some of you gearheads while I work on this project.

ok, weather cleared up so took some pics. The sheetmetal is in good shape except for the drivers side fender my dad bashed at some point. Rust is just surface stuff, nothing serious. The missing passenger side bed trim is my fault, knocked it off about 25 years ago as a teenager when I grazed the corner of the garage parking it

Wont really beable to start working on the exterior till the weather gets warmer and drier. Also have to see if I can get my brother to let me use some backyard space. Kinda cramped at my place. Biggest hassle I see with the interior is getting steering wheel, dash pad, door cups etc in green. Seems no one makes them in that color that ive found, so if anyone sees anything on ebay or elsewhere let me know. I'll post a project thread shortly.

Thanks for the welcome, and nadams, you are right! Bill and Ted were from San Dimas. In fact, we really do have a water slide park (Raging Waters) bout a mile from where i live, although there is no mall in San Dimas. Damm movies never get it right. As much as I liked the Matrix movies, I just can't think very highly of Keanu Reeves, all I can remember is a guy whose high point of acting in "Excellent Adventure" was saying "Dude."

I've already improved my truck in one day by visiting this site and ordering that great dome light from ranchero50. The future holds great potential.

I'll get some pics of the old beast and get em posted when I get a chance. Thnx again for the welcome.

I went to Raging Waters when my brother was stationed down there in the Marines in the late 80's. That 5 story steep slide was excellent. Party on dude! :D

OK I think I got that all out of my system now.
