lacquer thinner, carb cleaner or brake cleaner or denatured alcohol. mineral spirits does have some residual petroleum distillates in it, I think, or have been told that in the past.

I've always used laquer thinner and had good results.
Never used any of those others.

some sort of prep solvent, Klean easy, etc. You dont want any residue. Do not use carb cleaner, or mineral spirits, as they will leave a film behind.

wow, I didn't know carb cleaner leaves behind a residue? Is it oily? I have never noticed that. I mostly use lacquer thinner for most anything. There is also stuff sold alot of parts houses and Wally world too, called 3M wax and grease remover that is good
