76 F350 bed question

Post by cghstrojan08 »

Ok, got a 1976 F-350 Trailer Special. Since it is a Trailer Special, the wheel are back further so bed is different. I am done with the bed. It is wore out to a point of not worthy of fixing. I have been looking on ebay for a used flat bed. What can and can't I use? Is all the flat bed mounting for 73-79 trucks the same? I aint buyin new. I am a used kinda guy. Thanks

Problem is though that I don't have time for it on this truck. This is our mulch, trash, going to the dump kinda truck.

Would a bed from a F350 bump fit it?

while some flatbeds may be specifically made for a certain truck almost all flatbeds can be mounted on any truck. it all has to do with mounting surfaces. if they dont line up the frame can always be drilled to line the bed up with the new holes. also any mounting blocks can be added to make the bed level with the frame.

Sweet cause I can get a flatbed off a bump F350 at the junkyard. I think it might even be the FORD bed.

If its a trash truck why would you want a flatbed anyways? You would have to build side racks to hold the trash and whatever else. I'm really not a big flatbed fan.

Robert,

I believe the F-350 dentside frame area is 1 & 1/2" wider at the bed area?

Our bumpside flat beds uses wood in between the bed frame and the truck frame. With bolts that actually "squeeze" the two together.
Sure wish I had a picture of the mounts....
Maybe Cooltoolguy or Flatbed has a picture of the typical bed mounting.

Don't see too many flatbeds on ebay due to the shipping.
See if these guys have a dealer near you:

Frame width is the question. The bump 3/4 and 1 tons have a 34" wide frame, as I understand. The newer pickups have wider frames. I don't know if the dent pickups got wider or not. The Cab & Chassis trucks all have 34" frames thru the current ones. Alley Cat says that 34" is industry standard.
That factory bed is kinda rare. There's only one guy here who has one.
Here's the wood between the bed and the frame.

Your 76 F-350 SCS has the same frame width as our bumps (see link). It should bolt right on

I did not realize that our bump bodys will bolt up to a dent frame so easily. Maybe I for see a project in the future? :hmm:
