Door Lock

Post by The_Eman »

My driver's side door lock doesn't move up and down and thus doesn't lock. The mechansim is frozen in some way. I have the window out and the interior door handle b/c I'm getting ready to derust the interior door and put in a new anti rattle kit. I can't tell what is binding it up. I compared the passenger's side which works just fine but I can't tell what is causing the problem on the driver's side.

I tried to take off the entire assembly but two of the srews were stripped and I made them worse. I'll give it another shot today.

Any suggestions? I'll put a post in parts wanted if you suggest I buy a new assembly.

I would suggest getting it out. You may have to drill out the screws and get new ones. Once you get it out it is a lot easier to work on. I had the same issue and it ended up just being a small piece inside had bent. Plus once you have it out and fixed you can clean it up real good and lubricate it. Good luck

If you need a new mechanism, you might be able to find one at Drake & Son's. Someone bought them out and they renamed it but I can't recall the new name. They're out on Illinois at the foot of Ajo over the rail road tracks. They used to have a bunch of 67-72s. Good luck. Come to think of it, I have a couple of these. If you need one, drop me a PM and I'll give it to you.

Thanks Guys. I was able to remove it and fix it. I'm not sure how but one of the metal pcs was sticking out and preventing normal movement. I used a punch to bring it back into alignment and it seems to be working fine.

thx for all the feedback.
