it all depends on the quality. like you can get a maaco paintjob for a couple hundred that will look like poop. or you could spend a few thousand for one thats nice. ive never bought a paintjob though. but my 69 has a maaco paintjob that i will be stripping off. i know you probably new all that . oh well

the only paint job i ever bought was about 7k. two stage ppg. for a truck of uor size paint and materials are about 2k. the rest is labor. if you can find a deal on labor that's where you'll save $$$.

Hello,
Its a matter of what quality you want, the current condition of your truck and the type of paint. Also modifications.
if you want to paint the inside of the bed, cab, door jambs etc... it all adds up.
Doing the prep and body work yourself will only help you if you truely know what you are doing, other than that its just going to backfire on you.
Since its illegal to charge time and material on an autobody restoration in california now, i add $1000 to the bill if the vehicle is primered. this covers the labor and materials i will most likely need when i am sanding the junk off and find disasters that were well hidden by the primer.
7k for paint and bodywork is becoming more and more common now, as most shops (at least here in cali) wont touch any vehicle for under $2500.
About 4 years ago i worked in a custom shop and the final bill was over 80k, thats what happens when you want perfection and you start with a turd.
