wheels/tires on a lowered truck

Post by fitzwell »

so...the 68 is about to be back on the road. One of the first changes will be a set of dream beams & the flip kit in the rear. Beat one of my old runnin buddies out of a sert of older "turbine" style wheels, 8 in on the front, 10 in on the rear.
Anyone have a clue on a tire size for the front that won't rub too much?

Depends entirely on how much backspacing those rims have.

No way around it, you're going to have to measure the back spacing on the rims and then do some measuring inside the wheel wells of your truck to see what will fit. Some of the online tire and wheel web sites have good info on what measurements you need, I found these to be pretty helpful when I was trying to fill every square inch of my 36 Chevy's fenders.

Dream Beams... BE careful. I bought a set and the kingpins have 0.010" slop in their tubes. Totally unacceptable, but when I called DJM, they said they would be fine//// WRONG!!!! I am going to figure out how to fix this issue one way or another. MOOG makes 0.010" oversized kingpin kit, but no one can tell me if that means the OD of the bushings is oversized or if the kingpin itself is oversized. Anyone know???? IF the kingpin is oversized, then that makes an easy fix.

The oversized king pin lists the king pin diameter as the bushing (providing it's metal) has to be reamed to fit after installed in the beam.

Hey sorry I missed ya the other nite . If I'm not mistaken mine are 8's and 10's . We can compare to mine if you like and you could go from there. Would kind of give you an idea of what you could do size wise up or down

you can prolly get away with 4" back spacing in the front and about that in the rear if your tires don't "bulge" out past the rims too much.
