Help with bed bolts and spacers. What size?

Post by gmcjimmy88 »

I am wanting to bolt the bed back on the truck. I figured it would be easier to sell with the bed back on it. I need to know what size/length bolts I need to re-install the bed. The previous owner cut the bolts So I need them all. I also need to know what length the spacers are and what is the best thing to use. I was thinking about using some tubing and a large washer on the top and bottom. Thanks for any help.

From what was left of the bolt on the frame it looked like a spacer. Maybe not though. I did not remove the bed so I have no idea LOL.

DC has them, (the bolts) for $3.50 each, and the nuts for $1.00 each.

It looks as though there are no spacers at all used w mounting the bed.

Only the flareside beds had spacers if I remember right. I think they are wood.

The Stylesides don't need them.

After looking at the frame spacers have to be needed unless the bottom of the bed is contoured like the frame.

The spacer is built into the bed. some have put wshers in to make up for misalignments.

When I took the bed off my '70, there was nothing between the bed and frame (metal on metal)... BUT, there were some tube spacers that the front two bolts passed thru between the bed floor and the bottom of that front channel. I'd guess to prevent stress fractures around the bolt holes? Anyone else seen those?

That must be what I have seen. Does anyone know the length and size of the bolts. I want to mount the bed this week. I plan on some grade 8 bolts. I am selling the truck and do not want to order the bolts for the new owner to remove them when they do the work on the truck. I may just order new ones but who knows.

i looked at my trailer today. it sat right on the frame. i couldnt see inside the mount but i dont think there is any tube inside the mount. i would guess the bolts about 2 1/2 inches log. i dont know they size maybe 3/8 or 7/16. i doubt they are as large as 1/2 bolts.
