Let me Know what you think! 72 F250 4x4 Crew Cab(Long Bed)

Post by crewcablover »

Did they really make them long bed? Or were they all just the standard bed? And if I buy this truck I hope all you guys here are willing to help me a lot??? Because this truck is going to be a long rebulid. I also want to do some updates on it IE disk brakes, power steering, tilt, lift kit. You know all the cool stuff. Thanks

I believe the F350 was a long bed and the F250 was a short bed. I sure you can get everything you need from the group here as far as encouragement, technical information and advice. There is a lot of experience here. Good luck. How did it look in person again? :D

I have only seen and know of that the standard 8' bed came on F250 4x4s. Short boxes were offered on F100 4x4. As far as the F350 4x4 I am not for sure.

We are here to help as we are also here to learn off your mistakes.

Can you get a pic of it?

The paint is hiding some rust. Good old farm truck, you know the normal wear and tear. I was really happy all the glass looked pretty new. All the rubbers need to be replaced. Need to put the front diff back together. Needs new seats and all the inside stuff. It will be a long project on my budget. I offered $6000 and he came back with $6500 I havnt let him know yet. MAN I WANT IT BAD, wife is wondering why, but if your married you know the deal. I have always wanted one. And to find one that is mostly there and a little differnt being a long bed will be neat. Any how hope to get to know you all well and thanks for the help.

$6500  that sounds a bit steep. Anything special about it? Fixed up, new engine. etc etc. Not trying to scare away from it, maybe trucks down there are more :$$: . Here is one http://fordification.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3229

F.O.R.D. has a smallball D44 for sale. $100

Here is a pic from his ebay ad. Why don't everybody give me there ideas on what they would do to this truck. IE size lift, color, mods to it, keep the 460 ot take it out, Fuel injection, any of your ideas.

Hey heep, i believe this is the same crewcab he was looking at before. Is that correct crewcablover? That is why the price is steep. I was willing to go a lot higher for mine when I bought it, but I didn't have to. I wanted my 67 crewcab very badly though. I guess it is an illness. :dk: :D If it is what you want and its overall condition is something you can work with and feel good about the price, then it sounds like your truck. If you are the least bit unsure, then there will be more 4X4 crewcabs available down the road. Just the opinion of another crewcab lover.

I was thinking that it was a little high to. No there is not much special about it. It was been moded to a longer bed. Has a newer 460 in it. And being a 72 4x4 F250 CrewCab and most it is all there that is it. And you say down there. The truck is in Bend Or. I want a 72 and I would like to get one the is mostly there. I know I will have to work to it anyhow. But I am finding its harder and harder to find them that way. If anybody knows of any please tell. thanks

Ya, now that I seen the pic. He made it sound like an old used farm ride. I have seen some of these old farm trucks and they scare me.

What was the running and driving condition? In the photos, it looks pretty good to me. Does it look that good in person?

Yes trukcrazy, this the same one I went and looked at this weekend. Its in good shape for being a farm truck. The paint deal I didnt like was that the guy that owned it before him sprayed rino liner all over in the cab. I understand under and in the bed, but why in the cab? The paint job is just a plan s@$$y job. Looks like a spray can job. Can be fixed.

Nexted heep70, I was looking for lift kits online and didnt see them for this year. Where is a good place to find one? What kind (Brand). And how high would you go? Would you do a body lift to?

The plan is for it to be a all around drive down the road and also be able to take this bad boy off road and be able to do and go where I want!!

I have to give him a call back today. He has some guy!!! ya right that is willing to give him $6500. He called me and told me that he would rather sell it to me if I would give him $6500. I'am going to offer him $6250 I think plus some of the extra parts he has from the truck he used to work on fixing that one up.

Thanks again

trukcrazy -

You know when fords get all sloppy in the front? Well that is how the one drove. It seemed tight but need some work. It has that 460 in it, it started good and sounded ok. I think it needs a little tune up. It has sat for 3 years. The guy bought a new ( I know I shouldnt say it But a CHEVY) and parked the ford when he got it. Hey when I went to shift the shifter can out is that a big deal? I have had that happen to me before so I got it back in. Just want to know if I should be worried

Question for all should I leave the manual 4 speed or switch over to a automatic?

Skyjacker makes lifts for 73. It is the same fit. If you are going to do any heavy 4xing the axles are your weak points. You will need to upgrade to a 30 spline rear 60 and a front D60. The closed knuckle of the frontend is what will be weak and the 16 spline axle shafts in the rear are weak. They are good for mild 4xing.

Talk to 460 Crew. He has takin his Ford a few steps farther than mine. He has some good knowledge on lifts.
