whats that hole for?

Post by prostreetjim »

When I pulled the carpet out of my truck, on the drivers side floor panel, under the brake pedal and by the gas pedal there was a hole with a rubber boot. I see the pics that Keith posted about his center hump change had one. What is it for, mine didn't have anything going through it. :?

That's for the clutch pedal rod on trucks with standard transmissions. If the truck is equipped with an automatic, then the factory spotwelded a small cover plate over the hole.

Prior to 9/11 it was common for a mid eastern immigrant to get a CDL and lease a new truck. He would then find 3 or 4 buddies to ride with him. They would rip out most of the sleeper's interior and cut a hole thru the floor. These guys had a good scam going as they could keep the truck rolling almost non stop on one license.Problems arose however when the truck needed service. Many mechanics refused to work on them.My standard answer was 2 words. They were NOT yes sir. :x

Yup, and if you're planning on driving on the highway for 2 hours with no heater core and it's 28*F outside, wear an extra pair of socks on your right foot.

That's what the rust holes in the floor pans are for.
