68 rear cab mounts

Post by Banjo »

ok, while under my 68 I noticed the mounts for the cab have no nuts (both)! Apparently someone was considering robbing cab at some point or ? So, I locate a nut that fits and go to try to tighten and bolt just spins, where is the dang head? I looked inside the cab behind the bench, I removed one of the little rubber plugs back there figuring I'd see the bolt head inside there, no luck. Where is the dang bolt head, don't tell me I have to pull the gas tank!

its under the gas tank and usually the nut is made to the washer and is up inside the rubber you have to clamp a vise grip on the washer to keep it from spinning.

well that cinches it for me, if I have to remove the gas tank to get to bolt heads, these bolts will go lower to my list of priorities!

removing the tank is so easy even if it has gas in it. i have dione both styles and it is a breeze to take them out. the less gas the better but it can still be done with gas in it.

Don't go tearing everything apart to 'replace' a part that doesn't need to be replaced. The rear cab mounts don't use a conventional nut. What appears to be the washer from underneath is actually the nut. Here's a shot I took a while back comparing the stock rear cab mount hardware with the LMC replacements. You can see down in the lower right corner the threaded sleeve that acts as the nut and washer:

...and here's a better view of the piece I'm referring to:
