Pie Cut Hood

pie cut hood ,how do I do it?I am building a 68 F100 and saw one on Classic Trucks web site . And am wondering if anyone has any experience with this,and would be willing to help me out. although I am not by trade a body man I think I can pull this off with some guidence. The truck that I saw had 1 1/2 in. removed. any help will be appreciated

what do you mean by pie cut do you got a pic for example?

he means to cut the hood down to lower it profile in the front. the cut starts at the back on each side of the hood and gets slowly larger as the cut comes toward the front of the hood. thus lower the profile of the hood. i think thats how i understand it.

Lightning_msd You can see what I mean if you go to Classictruck.com. Go to their featured page click on Fords,the one Im talking about is a green 71 on the 2nd page.Ive seen it done to a 50s ford truck by Chip Foose. The more I think about this the more convinced I am that I can do it,plus I have a junk hood to play with.

by the looks of that nice green bump, it looks actually quite simple, i chopped a photo here, the blue line is im guessing where you cut and that would give it that look

Thats about where I thought also, the verticle edge at the rear of the hood will also have to be angled to. Hey this is the easy part though,its the actual fabrication thats gonna be tough... but it will be a very subtle addition that will have folks scratching their head.

As I spend more time thinking about doing this I am more concerned about how the strength of the hood will be affected and how I will accomplish braking the edges of the hood. one thought is to use a 1x1 sheet metal angle at the edge and finish it that way. Probably ought to just do it and see what happens. The article about the 71 says that it took about 20 installations to get it right. But hey isnt that what makes it fun...

EHHH. i dont like thatlook at all IMO. looks like something a ricer would do. i like how our hoods sit up. gives em a more beefy and aggressive stance. plus you can clear a 5" open element air filter.
