Removing chrome trim from the drip rail

Post by nmu91 »

I was wondering how the chrome trim comes off from the drip rail without damaging or marring it too badly? I am assuming that it just needs to be pried off? Do I have to worry about kinking it?

I appreciate any help that can be offered.

i have done this twice. it is tricky to be slow and carefull. i started with prying the sides off first. at the bottom. you can put a screwdriver behind it and twist slowly and slightly. when i got the sides off i couldnt figure out how to get the top off. my neighbor made me a quick little piece of alum storm window with a v notch cut into it. i used it as a pry bar to pry the top off with a piece of 2x4 on the windshield and slowly pried it off. go slow my stuff was on pretty good and had some rust under it helping hold it on.

The best way IMO is just to use a standard bottle opener...use the flat end, and put a wrap or two of masking tape on it to keep from scratching the trim. Works great!
