Under-seat Hold-downs

Post by MAK »

I pulled the seat out of my 72 this morning and got some pics of the floor. There are four hold-down brackets under there that I would like to know their purpose. The two largest on each side nearest the gas tank are held down with wing nuts. The other two are sping clamps for something. I'm assuming some or all are for the jack accessories, however, since my seat does not fold forward I don't know how you would get to them anyway.

Could someone tell me what each of these is for? Did I read some previous posts correctly in that some of these seats did fold forward and others did not? Was that an option?
Thanks for the help.

Hmmmm... I just posted a reply with an attachment but I don't see it. Here's a link to a photo. They are, as you suspect, for the jack handle and lug wrench. Just noticed I posted some pretty large photos; hope you're not on a dial-up connection!

Thanks Jor, that helps with how to mount the handle and wrench, if I could get to it... Looks like your seat folds forward. Was a folding seat an option or what?
Thanks!

I'll defer to someone else on the folding seat issue. I thought they all did.

Mak,
This question did come up recently, and I don't think a conlusion was arrived at....I've seen a '72 Custom with a folding seat, and a '72 Ranger XLT and the seat didn't fold :hmm: ..Both seats were original...Is yours one of those cloth/vinyl Ranger seats?
This is the point...I'm....talking about everybody! I'm talking about form! I'm talking about content! I'm talking about interrelationships! I'm talking about God, the devil, hell, heaven!!!! Do you understand???? Finally!!!!

Mine's the standard all vinyl seat. Does anyone have any detailed pics of a folding bench seat? I could post some of a non-folding just so we could see what the differences are.

Ok they all will fold however the ones meant to fold had a deal to clasp it so fast decel and crashes don't make it throw you into the dash. However yours will fold it takes an allen wrench i believe.or just the 3/8 drive rachet(the end that the socket slips over).turn it 1-3 turns it will fold. I have a seat out of a 79 f150 exact same seat diff foam&springs has a roll bar that keeps it from folding until you lift up on the handle.oh and dif color.still nice seat i only need reupholstered seems the daily slide in and slide out rips the seat a new one.

I don't want to give em a heart-attack. That is what would happen if I answered the door in the buff. Heck it almost scares me to death when I step out of the shower and look in the mirror.~Mancar1~

My 72 had some bolts in to keep it from folding forward when I first got it, I just took them out. The 71 never did have anything keeping it from folding.
