rustbullet/Por-15/ bedliner

Post by Pipes71 »

hey guys..Ive been holding off from buying por-15 and, or rustbullet. My biggest concern is I was thinking of using it inside the bed as well as under.right now I have a spray in bedliner I got off of ebay. My original thought was to just paint the inside of the bed then spray the bedliner in after I scuffed up the paint. now Im not sure about the Por-15, but I saw in the rustbullet site that someone mentioned they were using a rhino liner after. yet no where does it say to spray a top coat (that I saw) what to do as far as surface prep to the rustbullet.I emailed them and havent heard yet.. so I thought perhaps one of you might have tried this same route and might lead me in the right direction. I just dont want to spend all the money to use either one in the bed, then sand it and find out I basically wasted time because I canceled out the whole purpose of the product.. any thoughts or info would be great.

I used POR15 in my Toyota cab and then a bedliner on top of it. It did because the floors had allot of surface rust. I did end up using an etching primer on top of the POR15 to help with the adhesion of the bedliner. I strongly recommend the use of the etching primer if you use POR15 if you let it dry before applying the bedliner. I have had now issues with peeling yet. It has been over a year and I wheel this rig so it sees all kinds of abuse as far as me getting in and out of the rig numerous times.

If you are looking to save some cash then make sure you get out as much rust and then use a rust preventative primer before the bedliner application. I think prepping is the main key.

I am going to try SEM Rust-Seal on my bed. It is supposed to kill the rust and act as a primer. Then I am going to throw a rubber mat over it until I am ready to have the truck painted. On the outside of the bed I am going to try some touch-up paint over it.
