Kingpin bushings

I'm currently replacing the kingpins on my 69 F250 and I've never done this before. How do I get the brass bushings out of the spindle? Do I need to take it to a machine shop and get them pressed out? Other than that everything looks pretty straightforward.

Seems like I remembered a tutorial Keith did on this but i couldn't find it. :roll:

Got 'em done. I just had to tap them out. I hate to wail on stuff I'm not yet familiar with, nothing more frustrating than breaking perfectly good parts cuz you didn't know what you were doing.

if you're putting brass bushings in with your new kit, there are two metal oring type washers that are fairly small with a u shape groove on one side. These are supposed to go under the top bushing, but you'll have to get that bushing close to the threads for your top cap to get room to get this washer thing in it's place. The u shape goes up and it's supposed to help hold the grease in upper spindle bore. That's best I could find out on those mystery peices, my bushings were down too far, so I couldn't install and had to just do without.

your kit might not have these 2 little washers, these are not to be confused with the large sealed bearings that go under ibeam to bear load. And, those brass bushings are supposed to be reamed at same time and the kingpin a hand push slip fit. Ok, I had to use a light hammer to get going through ibeam, was a little tighter there. I coated my kingpins with antiseize. just finished mine up, hope to bleed brakes and get alignment soon, good luck on yours banjo.

There were actually 4 of the grease seal rings. None came out when I took it apart, but I figured where they were supposed to go and put 'em in. All seems to be functioning right.
