Over my head in Texas

Post by Ronnie1972 »

Hi folks, back when I was 18 I had a 1972 F100 Ranger XLT (w/390). It was 19 at the time. Unfortunately I sold it quite a while ago and never realized how much I missed it.

So 16 years later (a couple of weeks ago) I bought a 1972 F100 Sport Custom (390). It's got it's share of problems (lots of power loss, possible carberator issues, gasket leak, pesky oil leak) and I am way over my head (I'm not sure I could even change my oil on my 98 altima). But I'm sure gonna try to make this truck all it can be.

This really looks like the best place to come. You guys sure seem friendly and ridiculously helpful. So forgive all of my fairly stupid questions ahead of time. I'll try to make a sig of my new project later.

Ok since folks asked for pictures, here's my new bump:

Thanks!! (more pics further in this thread)

Welcome!!!!!!!!!

I was in the same boat as you and this site and the people in it have helped me tremendously. I hadn't worked on a car since highschool auto shop101...20+ years ago. In the short time I've had my 68 f100, I've replaced the brakes, bled them, fixed windows that wouldn't roll up, fixed numerous electrical problems and have learned a ton about my new truck. It is very satisfying. I have gained alot of confidence.

Take one and only one problem at a time. Ask questions, research it and repair it yourself. If they can do it, so can we.
