Kingpins

should I be able to just push my new kingpins in my spindles by hand through the bronze bushings (new also)?? machine shop said that, I was figuring should be a little tigther? But, I'm basing that on old ones I drove out (they were frozen to ibeams).

no you shouldn't the new bushings need to be reamed after installed in I beams. every fit is different, the new parts can't be made to accommodate all the variables. The Bushings are made small and installer reams to fit.

Let me rephrase. Should new kingpins need to be pressed in rebushed spindles/ibeam? Machine shop says kingpin supposed to be fairly loose only held in place by locking bolt/pin. I thought new kingpins should be tighter than that, I can push mine in spindle bores in and out by hand.

once the bushing are installed and reamed, the kingpins should slide in and be held in with the locking bolt.

I can slide these all the way "home" by hand, and was expecting greater resistance. Should they require tapping or anything? Forgive my naivity, I've driven 2 sets out w/hammer and based on that hellacious struggle these seems "too easy". Banjo.

Seems to me that if they were loose enough to slide all the way through by hand, then you would have too much play in the spindle assembly.

Did the machine shop hone or ream the I-beams? Or were the kingpin bores galled or chewed up?

there is not a press fit between the kingpin and the bushing. the bushings are reemed to the diameter if the kingpin. the kingpins should slide easily in the bushing.
