1975 f100 4x4 ranger drum to disc brake conversion

Post by benbo30 »

hi i am new to this site , i just bought me my first 1975 f100 4x4 ranger with ford 9inch rear and dana 44 front , well it has drums all the way around, and i heard i can do a conversion to discs, well i am getting fed up with the drum brakes so i am going ahead on doing the conversion but as i was searching through the site i cant seem to find out what i need for the conversion or if i need a kit or anything , so i was wondering if i can get some info on how to do the swap, what year i need to get it off of and all that , thanks anything would be appreciated thank you

you should be able to get one from a 79 bronco. i know i have seen one on the one at my local salvage yard. but i dont know what kind of dana it is. and there is somethiing about open knucles and closed knuclkes. but i dont know anything about that either.

73 to 79 is dentside. 76 was the first year for discs on the 4x4's. You need all the parts from the dustshields out from a 76-79 F-150 4x4 or bronco.

Often you can buy a whole disc axle for a hundred bucks and keep the leftover parts for spares. The 78-79 D44 housings are cheezier than the early ones and it's worth keeping the early drum housing and swapping discs onto it.

That would explain why my dentside (76) has discs on the front. Learn something new everyday here on FORDification :D
