Factory inspection and Grease Marks

Post by fordtruckparts »

I am restoring a '69 Ford F-250 and am trying to get it as close to stock as possible. Does anybody have any photos of any factory markings, grease marks, inspection marks, anything that is correct, that I can duplicate on my truck???????

Any help is greatly appreciated. My truck has been restored in the past, so all the marks are long gone!

Thanks

My truck is bone stock so the marks are probably there, but I don't know where to look.

You can find them pretty much anywhere - on the firewall, engine, tranny, rear axle, underside of truck, anywhere that's not visible with the hood down, or the truck on the ground!!

You can't miss them. They stand out pretty good

Unfortunately, I didn't take a pic. But after pulling my engine & scrubbing all the oil and grime off my firewall I found the paint code (P2 in my case) written with a black grease pencil (I think) down low on the center of the firewall. About 6" or so tall. I didn't duplicate it, still kind of fun to discover.

Hmmm....thought I answered your post, but I don't see a reply. :hmm:

I can show you a few from my '67 F250, but I don't know how different your '69 would be.

This one is on the right inner frame of my '68 F100.

Here are the pictures from my '67 F250:

Both fenders have factory assembly-line notations of 'MF', which corresponds to the paint code on the VIN data tag. The markings on the L/S fender also include '166'.

Image

This '166' is located on the firewall just to the left of the master cylinder:

Image

...and on the back of the cab's exterior, behind the driver's seat, there's another '166'. I took several shots of this, but the flash from the camera apparently blew it out. It's actually almost as sharp as the firewall number:

Image

Here's a shot of the firewall from a '68 Ranger I parted out several years ago:

Hope this helps. :D

Thanks

My '69 Ranger Parts Truck has the same type of Marking where the inner fender bolts to the cab, but it is a different number. I will check tomorrow and post it.

oh is that what those are? I'd noticed markings like that, but wasn't sure what they were about. Blues got a 376 on the same spot on the firewall and a matching number in the passenger side front corner of the hood. Which is cool cause I'd been wondering for a while if the hood had been changed (I've got '68 reflectors on the hood and it origionally had them on the side of the bed as well) but since the numbers match they must have just been stolen off of a 68 and put on later  yay for learning things :P

My bed has a '333' on the driver's side outside front wall, you can see it when looking thru the gap between the cab and bed.

I think they might my firewall both fenders and the hood match with a 106
plus the color code and my serial is N60,106. So far everything cab forward is original. :D
