Went for a road trip to Iowa....

Post by flyboy2610 »

and came back with these! :) :) :)
I got some dual caliper spindles! I got tired of trying to find some single caliper ones that were for a 7500# GVW truck.
I found these on the net, and called the place Monday. They said they'd hold them for me till today. One of the spindles was for a '69 and one was for a '71. I got there and only one of the spindles (the "69) had the caliper bracket and backing plate on it! I mentioned to the guy that those were the parts i was really after. he said "Well, let's see what will interchange."
He looked it up on his computer and said "It says that a spindle i have from a '78 will work." So we looked at it, and it ad a dual caliper bracket, but it was for a sliding style of caliper. :(
The guy said "Let's go see what's on the other rack." So we went and looked on the rack where we had gotten the '69 from.
Happy day!! :D :D
He had a spindle from a '72 with a bolt on dual caliper bracket of the same style as the '69!!!!!
We put them in the mini van, and went in to pay for them. He asked "How much did the guy you talked to on Monday quote you for these?"
I said "Well, your website said they were $35 apiece."
He said "I'll let you have them for $25 each."
So I not only got my brackets, I got them for $20 total less than I was planning on spending. Helped pay for the gas!
I have the calipers and hubs lined up as to where I'm going to get them from.
Anybody know of a good place to get the proportioning valve from?
Are the disc brake hoses different form the drum brake hose? Can I use the hoses I have now, or do I have to get disc brake hoses?
I have one of the brackets uindergoing electrolytic rust removal as I type this.
Now it's off to Valentino's Italian Restaurant for salad and buffet! Yumm! Yumm! :D

They were in Doon, Ia which is in the NE corner of the state, just off US75N.
I found them using this site:
http://www.car-part.com/
Just answer the questions, and it'll locate the parts you need.
I haven't checked the part as far as rust removal, but I've used this method before and it works great, so I know it'll clean the parts.
For more info on how to do it, see this thread:
http://www.fordification.com/forum/view ... st+removal
Warning: Do NOT hook the positive battery charger cable to the part, or you will ruin the part!
You MUST hook the NEGATIVE cable to the part, and the positive to the electrode in order for this to work.
Removing rust this way works really well. It sure beats trying to use a wire wheel on an electric drill!

#1 on the electrolysis. My father and I have used it for rust removal from parts of all shapes and sizes. I even built a box and lined it with a heavy tarp to clean up a set of 300 Six Headers!!!

On the hoses. For my 71 F250 with the dual piston disc calipers, I found out today that O'Reilly Part Number BH49927 ($13) is too short. You have to go with BH78077 ($26) for the right length. Their computers say both will fit  Advance uses the same numbers minus the "B". Their website says the $13 version to only fit drum brakes.

Similar situation with the inner wheel seal. Oreilly computer says 2WD front disc seal is part number 4148. This won't fit. It is small enough to fall through the hole. I had to go with 6954S. These numbers are the same and just as wrong at Advance. The seal on the passenger side had FORD stamped on it with part number C7TA-1190-C1. The seal I took out of the drivers side was a replacement with 20608 stamped on it, which 6954S replaces according to the box it came in. The parts dude said somebody probably mixed and matched rotors with drum spindles, after he asked if I was sure it was disc brakes.

Good luck with your rebuild. Maybe some of the above will help. I'm not sure what you goal is.
