Steering column adjustment

Post by Hinkle »

ok, so i went to go take off in my 1967 ford f100 yesterday, and the bracket appeared to be slipping off of the spindle that comes up from the steering box. i jacked up the truck, turned the wheel, and the wheels turned. then i lowered it again, and the wheels would turn with the steering wheel again. now, should i just leave it alone and assume that its safe? or is there something that i should adjust?

Is the rag joint slipping on the steering box spines? There is a bolt that can tightened and it takes a 12point socket.

Also on 2wds the cab is real close to the steering box, rusted or broken front cab mounts can really stress the rag joint.

so THATS what that thing right above the box is called. yes, that was what was slipping. the bolt on it had so much rust that you couldnt even see the threads. tomorrow im gonna go get a new rubber... thing... that goes above that and i have a brand new bolt for that part that i will put in there. thanks a lot! im still learning a lot about my old ford pickup.
