69 f-250 rotors

Post by Faltura »

I started looking into the brakes on my 69 F-250 and discovered that the hubs are integrated with the rotors. When replacing the rotors,

Where do you get the best quality rotors? I've experienced some junky stuff coming from the parts places around here when I replaced the rotors on the newer cars. Any recommendations on a quality parts place that handle them for my truck?

Anyone that has change out the rotors, have you attempted to transfer the bearing races from the old to the new? Seems that it would be difficult to get the races out of the old one without damaging them.

It appears that replacing rotors on these trucks is an expensive ordeal.

I would appreciate any advice.

I'd suggest trying NAPA for the rotors.Although they may cost a bit more the quality is always good. Most replacement rotors today come with new races in them.If the ones you get don't I would suggest buying new ones. I've had good luck knocking races out but I've also damaged some. :)

If it has the Bendix name on it the quality will be good.As far as the bearings go you are right.Bearing and race should be replaced as a set.

Like most people I try to save a buck where ever I can. Some things though can wind up costing far more than the few bucks I would save. Brakes are one of them. :)

I will probably change everything. However, I am finding out that new does not always mean better. I have found this with wheel bearings. I don't think any are made in the U.S. any more. I have had short bearing life from that junk made in China and Eastern Europe. Do you know of any good quality bearings made in the U.S. (or anywhere else)? I don't mind paying extra for good stuff, but I,m having a hard time finding the good stuff.

I gotta agree on the junk that comes from China , the far East and most of Europe.Germany however does produce very high quality alloys.I would suggest finding a Timken distributor near you. They are a worldwide company so I doubt all of their products are made here but experience has taught me the quality is always good.If you can't get Timken thru your usual sources I would suggest you try a vendor that sells parts for heavy trucks.Timken is a major supplier of bearings used in truck drive train components.Take samples of the bearings and races with you. They may not stock what you need but they will be able to get them.Hope this helps.
