What do you keep in your bed-side tool box?
For those of you who have a tool box built into the side of your pickup bed: what do you keep in it?

hmmmm Max...
I dunno what's in the box...
The PO didn't have the key and I haven't be curious enough to drill out the lock.
Heck, there might be a million bucks in there, maybe I better check it out...
Take care...

The old truck essentials. Water, Oil, Antifreeze, starting fluid, jumper cables. Also ratchet straps and rope. Mine has some home made under bed boxes from the PO.

Hey 71LB...
Nah, not will power... just laziness.
It'll still be there when I get around to doing something with it...
The bed is sitting on a rolling frame, that's all that's left of my '71 CS.
I wanna get a trailer made outta the frame and bed, but have had 4 differant guys who said they would do the cutting and welding on it bail on me...
I am gonna try another guy I know that has a shop here in town and see what he'd charge. It's been sittin' there for almost a year now, and my roomie would really like it outta the way...
Take care,

re: What do you keep in your bed-side tool box?
All I kept in mine was stuff that I wanted messed up. Always stayed nasty in there. Never could find what I wanted. but was nice to have jumpers ( for others ). A tow strap ( once again "for others") Now that you made me think about it, It was neat to have, but a real pain to get into and to wax around, I don't miss it even a little bit. After I got rid of the in cab fuel bomb, I mean tank, I have all the room in the world for anything nice neat and organized. It was also hard to keep the top of it clean, under the bed, would have mud caked all over it. SO that would promote rust . It just seemed that every time I went to open it I had to get down on one knee or both in rain or snow or at night to help somebody else that didn't maintain their truck..Guess I hava bad attitude about another one of "Fords better Ideas"

Another thot, look at you pic of the inside of it...See the RUST, that is not from your truck. That is from something in there that got wet, real wet , stayed wet and rusted. I had two of them and neither one sealed well. Then one time a plastic quart of oil go a pin hole in it from bouncing around and banging on who know what, tools, chains, just the stuff I had in there all that mixed with water hell-of-a-mess

Those things are a haven for moisture, last time I had one, '79 F-250, all I had in there was my ball and hitch, a pipe wrench, and some old rope.

I hate the bedside boxes. Chevy used them too, they weren't just a Ford thing so you can't totally blame Ford.
I think the bedside boxes rank up there with the more useless truck accesories. I really never understood why some people seam to look for the toolbox as such a desireable thing. I've never seen anyone really use it.
I've sent a few perfect bumpside beds to scrap because they had the toolbox. Not that I didn't try to sell them, just nobody wanted them.
I have aluminum toolboxes in the front of the bed of most of my trucks. Far handier and your stuff doesn't get ruined.

Small floor jack and handle, pliers, hitch balls and receiver.

re: What do you keep in your bed-side tool box?
I'd love to have one. That way I could keep a jack, tow strap, and small hand tools in it. A big tool box in the bed takes away from cargo space. It's overkill for the items I just mentioned, too. Maybe my next bump will have one.

I keep a large 4 way wrench my jack a well equiped socket set several hitch recivers a chain and a tow strap & jumper cables,, I think it very handy since there is no room for this stuff in behind the seat plus anything else that is valuable on a trip since most folks would not break in the that box versus the cab or glovebox and JC whitney sell the replacement seals for theses to keep moisture out,, it was an option for camper chains and jacks for securing the camper etc. I love mine and they are not an everyday option so its pretty cool imop.

I put some padding in , so I keep as much soda (mainly various types of cola) as I can stuff in there. I'm gonna put my tool, chains, etc. in my aluminum box.
I don't have to jump up to get my soda with the bed-side box.
