Hood Latch

Post by FLATBEDFORD »

What should the the piece on the radiator support that the hood latch engages look like on my '70 F350?
It looked like this when I got the truck.

The problem is, the hood closed like this.

I used the parts from my '67 parts truck even though they look completely different.

Now it closes like this.

Probably one of the best visual improvements I've made to the truck. It looked like crap with hood all crooked. I was able to adjust it so that it closes tightly and even on all sides. I also tried to bang some of the dents out of the headlight surrounds too.

Here's a comparison shot of the two styles of latches. The '67-'68 style is on bottom, the '69-'72 style is on top:

The upper valance panels are also different. You can use an early-style latch receiver with a later valance, but not vice-versa. The later receiver will not fit an early valance panel.

It seems my original latch broke. Who ever repaired it must not have measured very carefully. I'll leave the '67 stuff. I hope I don't offend any of the purists around here.
