Sterring wheel restoration?

Post by Redcap »

Any ideas? My pretty nice 3-spoke has some small cracks near the base of each spoke. I'd like to fix them and was thinking of putty and paint...but if there is something better to use, I'm all ears!

I've done this on Chevy wheel. Get a 3 corner file, kinda small but not needle file size. Start opening up your cracks. Get them fairly deep, so you can reach all the areas on the inside of the crack and drill lots of little holes with drill. You want area's for the filler to go into and bite for backing. Mix you up some JB Weld, and fill 'er up and let dry and use wood popcycle stick, force it down into the crack real good and level. When it drys, the hard part is the sanding, you have to watch if you have any plastic "pattern" and you might lose that (like pebble pattern or whatever), good luck, Banjo.

Ya, what Banjo said will work. You might have to do the JB weld in steps, as it tends to run a little.

Hey on this note...

Does anyone have one (A wheel that is) that I can try this on?

I want a 3 spoke 60's style.

Thanks
Dan
