Painting Exhaust???

Post by JWW »

Has anyone every repainted their exhaust?

I bought a new muffler but I thought I might repaint the exhaust from the manifold as well as the tail pipe. Can anyone recommend a paint? Is this even something that can or should be done. I'm trying to avoind buying new pipes for now.

You could try header paint. They painted an exhaust on the '57(or is a '58, can't remember) F100 in Custom Trucks a few months back. It looked pretty good.

Eastwood Stainless Steel paint.

Works great, lasts several years depending on prep work and subsequent conditions.

rust oleum high heat BBQ black. Holds up better than any header paint I've used. Waste of time IMHO though. If it's rusty it'll just keep rusting. Good aluminized tubing will last awhile though.

After removing the exhaust last night, I believe I will go to my local muffler shop and have them bend me some tubing. Boy, it was rustier than I thougtht.

Thanks for all the paint ideas.

 Well, the local muffler shop won't fabricate any exhaust pipe for me. My truck is not up and running, so I'll have to wait.

I did go ahead and paint eh pipe with High Heat Flat Black. Looks better than the rust. Oh well.

My first CJ I painted black with some old BBQ paint out of a can with a brush! It came out pretty good and never burnt off the exhaust flanges.

woodstove sprypaint might hold.
Old trucks, like old computers are more fun. Is the web really fun? No but its utilitarian. Spitfire, Wildcat, Fidonet, QWK and door games were FUN. The new truck works and its pretty, but compared to a bumpside or dentside, it just isn't fun.
