Hey folks. Nice forum here, I have a lot of reading to do so I'll probably hold off on the silly questions for a day or two.

I finally pulled my 71 F-100 out of the barn and fired it up the other day. Now I'm into it for a while, got to get it to stop (pretty important), tuned up, tires and an inspection.

I saw this truck in 1981 when I went with my girlfriend to her grandparents farm in Halifax, VA. Her grandad kept it in the barn and it was spotless. I had told him back then if he ever wanted to sell it, give me two days to get down there from western PA.
He sold his 48 Ford and bought this one new so he's had two trucks since 1948. He never did give it up but knew I'd be the one to have it someday. They used to tease saying the only reason I visited was to eat granma's cooking and check up on the truck. He lived to be 96 and although they took his drivers license, how do you stop a guy from going to the dump that used to have the only general store in town? He did OK on the road, it was the barn that was his undoing. The truck was straight till he hit the back wall a few times and dented the door on the passenger side, still not bad though. It quit on him one day in the field when he was taking some stuff out to burn, said it was the transmission, but it ended up spending about a year and a half in the field. After he passed away, I went to get the truck and found it out of gas. Some fresh gas and a jump and I was able to get it back in the barn. I went and got it in the spring of 05 and haven't done anything with it till this week. Now it's coming back to life and I think I found a place to help.

It's been a while since I've been under the hood on a project but I am looking forward to it.

The truck is as good as I could expect for it's age but he did paint it with a brush after painting his Ford 4500 tractor. That paint is kinda peeling/falling/fading off. There is only one rust spot on the whole truck at the drivers side front fender. Doors, rockers, tailgate, bed and underbody are all rust free. Lucky, huh?

By the way, I grew up using Super A's to work Tobacco. I still think its funny that people call them antiques.

I'm headed out now to start tearing out brake lines. Gonna get tires on Monday, you have to go to an old family tire shop to talk tires with someone, if it's not on their computer screen at some of these places they look at you funny.

BTW, it's got a good old 302 with 117,000 miles, three on the tree and an ashtray.

Going to get antique plates for it, no inspection required in WV.

Argggghhhh, John Deere..... that word comes up as red dots on our forum posts. Truth be known though, I'd take an old B any day, I love the sound.

I guess I have to find a web host for pictures, any recommendations? I used to use Picture Trail on an old Farmall Cub forum.
