72 Chassis swap

Post by Aussie72 »

Hi there. I have a 1972 SWB 2WD F100 in Lismore NSW Australia. I have read the info regarding swapping a 73 - 79 chassis to get the disc brake front end and wider rear frame rails, but was wondering about 80 onwards chassis and how compatable they are with the 72 cab and front sheet metal? Is it an easy swap or not worth the extra headaches. Any help would be much appreciated as I can source a good 80 model chassis not to fare from where I live. Cheers. Glenn.

I may be wrong, but the frames on the '80+ models are alot different! I think FORD totally revamped the design after '79. It would take more work than it's probably worth to make the swap work. You're better off trying to find a '73-'79 chassis. :2cents:

Yeah, 80 and newer don't work, nothing really interchanges.

The 73 to 79 beams will bolt on so you wont need to swap the chassis.

What is the goal for swapping frames? The stock frame is pretty stout and twin I-beams are hands down the toughest modern 2wd front suspension you can find.

To answer the question, nothing bolts under. The 73-79 frames are somewhat close, but I have no idea why you'd want to swap one of them since they have the same design.

Gotcha. There's a neat thread here somewhere where one of the members put his SWB bumpside on a 90's T-bird frame. Lost of cutting, but it did fit. Nothing bolts under. I'd say fabbing custom stuff would make for a better result, but it's all opinion.
