The wheels have all new clyinders and the shoes are just barely rubbing on the tire as they spin, just as i had set them. and the truck pulls hard to right when brakeing

pulls Hard to right, prob the front brakes, since its to the right either your right front brake is working to well, or the left front isn't working, I would recheck the front brake adjustment, do a very close inspection of the brake hoses, have a helper apply the brakes while you spin the tires and wheels by hand.
Not sure about the "super stiff" part is this a manual brake truck ? If so I think your Mother might just be used to power brakes.
I have had very hard shoe lining make the pedal effort hard. The new shoes could be a hard material, brake manufacturers are constantly changing material looking for an asbestos replacement, this something to keep in mind. I hope this helps a little.

I've got the right pull too. I think I read here recently that the rubber lines going to the wheel can get gooey inside or something and not allow the cylinder to collapse when you let off the pedal.

Yes or they can blow up similar to a balloon on one side causing that brake to work poorly.69rangerman wrote:I've got the right pull too. Re: re: Stiff
When that happens, usually your brake locks up though. Then releases after it sits for a while.Wes wrote:Yes or they can blow up similar to a balloon on one side causing that brake to work poorly.69rangerman wrote:I've got the right pull too. Simple really. The left side ain't working. Usually thats a hydraulic
problem. New 30yr. old wheel cylinders can be rusted stuck.
Normally on a drum brake setup, under 35 you should be able to
lock up the brakes. It might pull a little, but not too much you can't
control it. First thing to ck. is the hydraulics. Make sure none of the
pistons/cylinders are stuck or leaking. Then the friction materials.
Are the linings clean and dry and no grease or fluid on them. Next
the drums. Are there any little dark spots in the center where the
shoes ride? Untill you correct it, there's no way I would ever let my
Mom drive it.
