Best sized angle grinder for rust?
I'm gonna have to do my first exploratory paint bubble pop, and rust/body work soon. Understanding that I'll probably have to do some grinding back to metal what would be the best size of grinder or tool to do that with?

I have a 41/2" and it seems to work fine, you can get flap discs, cutting discs, wire wheels, what i usually do when fixing rust is strip the paint first with the wire wheel, then use a flap disc to sand it down, if its all the way threw then cut it out and patch it, if not than use some putty to fill the scratches, and go from there, good luck ![Thumbs up ](./images/smilies/icon_thumright.gif)

Black and decker make the best grinders if you're shopping. B&D grinders never die and work way harder. I've got 3 4.5"s and 5 9 inchers and they all get used very hard. A couple of them are from the 50's and never been taken apart. You only need the big ones for serious grinding, and be careful with them too. The big ones don't play around!

4-1/2" Milwaukee. I prefer the paddle switch. It's mounted on the bottom of the handle and held down with the palm of you hand. I think that's a safer design than the standard on-off slide switch. If you have to let go of the grinder for any reason it stops on its own.

Just remember dont get the metal to hot from any grinding as it will warp it.

Bought what looked like a worn-out 4.5" Makita with a cut power cord from a buddy that owns a pawn shop for $5. Replaced the cord and have used it hard for 5 years. Thats my testimonial

re: Best sized angle grinder for rust?
hmmm...
I have 4 HF on the floor of the shop every day... 4 1/2 "
I have less than $70 in all 4.
One has a cutting wheel, one has a grinding wheel, one has a wire brush, and one has a flap disk sander.
Some may say these are junk, but I can go months without swapping abrasives from one to another, and if one goes bad, I have a spare on the shelf I bought last time they were on sale for $14.99 (with coupon).
Since I use them 1/4th as much, they will probably last me as long as your higher quality, more money, 100% use single grinder.
OK... So I am a little different...
Just my
