bed removal

I have a long bed 69 F-250 camper special. I am looking at removing the bed and doing it by myself. Does anyone have any tips on the best way to do this? Any one know how much the bed weighs? I guess that there is a number of ways to do it, but I would like to get some experienced folks to give some input.

A couple friends would help your back You could slide some long 2x4's under it longways and lifting the cab end slide it off the back onto some grass or a blanket to protect the tailgate. You just have to lift high enough to clear the wheels, then when it's up on end pull the truck forward, then lay the bed down again. Kinda at least a 2 man job but where there's a will there's a way. Picking it up with another person and having a 3rd drive the truck out is about the easiest, no walking and carrying a bed.

Call up a friend man. Me and a friend lifted my long box off. Once the bolts are off it took all of 5 mins to lift the bed off. Just be sure to buy him a drink when your done. haha

hey 69 bump truck, do you know who sells those truck bed kits? I,m sure that once the bed is off, I am going to have to do some shuffling around, possibly with another bed. I can see where the buddy system is best however its difficult to get some of my buddies and my schedule to work out. I live out in the sticks and the able bodied buddies a fair distance away.

No, sorry. I saw it on an episode of "TRUCKS!", but it's been a while. I'm sure you could do a web search and find something though. I just can't remember the name of the company.

Regarding the bed kits, I just saw an episode of Two Guys Garage and he put a bed on an old Chevy. The kit looked very good and it came from Classic Industries. It looks like they just do Chevrolet but maybe they can refer you to a Ford outfit.

Thanks, I'll check into it. Why is it that chevy stuff is so much more common? I thought that the f- series was the most common truck on the road. Does GM promote their stuff more?

back underneath a tree, hook a rope to all 4 corners, lift it with a block and tackle, and drive out. set the bed back down. I've 2 or 3 beds like that by my self

I actually jacked up my whole truck then put a set of stands on the bed and lowered the frame and pulled the frame out from under the bed.

Why is it that chevy stuff is so much more common?

I guess it's just a more desirable body style. I really like the old Chevys too.
