Dana 44 front dif ?
I have a dana 44 out of a 76' 1/2 ton 4x4, it is a coil front dif. I want to know if the hub and rotor assy off of an 8 lug leaf Dana 44 will bolt up to my 5 lug spindles? I want to put a dana 60 in the rear and want matching 8 lug up front. I would do a dana 60 up front but cannot afford at this time so I fugured I would put 8 lug on my 44.

The entire knuckles-out would have to be used, not sure if it fits though, pretty sure the ford 44HD's used a bigger U-joint. The most common option is to get the knuckles out from an 80's or 90's TTB 3/4 ton with a 44 front. They bolt right on the 1/2 ton housing.

I think you can. If you use drums. I have a 67 f100 with the dana 44 up front. I did what you are wanting to do. Mine is drum though. It has a 60 rear and the 44 up front with the 70 f250 backing plates, drums, and hubs. Good luck Doug

Is your spindle 6 bolt or five bolt? Not the wheel bolts- the spindle. If it's the big five then I believe the 76 3/4 ton stuff would bolt right on to your 44. If it's a 6 bolt I think....78/79 3/4 ton stuff would bolt on from the knuckle out...
On edit: I re-read the first post. I parted out a 76 F-250 that had the same 5 bolt spindle as your 1/2 ton does. I believe all the parts should bolt on from the knuckle out. I.E- Spindle, backing plates, hub and rotor assy, calipers, etc. Not sure if the outer axle ends are the same length but I think it should all work...Only drawback I think is that you'd have to use 16.5 or bigger wheels.
