Quick steering column question...

Post by GSequoia »

Okay I have an oddball question here... Anybody know much empty space there is in '71 era steering columns? This is an automatic version.

Reason being is I have this tach I want to install and it'd be sweet if I could put a couple small machine screws in the column to hold it there (I'd drill the column and tap it). I'd just like to see what sort of a margin of error I should expect.

Thanks,

You should have about an 1/8" clearance inside. If the screws protrude less than 1/16" you should be fine. Might have to tap it with a bottom tap or just notch the screw tips so they self tap.
