Traction Bars

Post by mrtleavitt »

I'm hunting some traction bars for my 1969 F-100. Anybody know where I can get some good ones? The axle hopping is getting pretty annoying!

Sand Bags There never to my knowledge had traction bars for trucks. I adapted a set to the top of one of my racing truck's springs. What a pain.

Try these guys. A couple of my buddies are running these on their cars and claim they work well.
They don't list our trucks on their application sheet but I had emailed them a while back and they told me they did make them for my '63 unibody truck. I would imagine they make them for 67-72 also...

Keith, I'm sorry but I do not see how those would really do anything.
Just call traction master (http://www.tractionmaster.com/index.html) and get a pair of the best ones out there. They are the ones that were run on the classic Shelby Mustangs and don't look retarded.

You might not see how those would do anything but they beat the bang bars hands down. Real racers don't use spring mounted traction bars they use Ladder bars that tie the frame to the axle. Ladder bars register the axle's position front and back and due to being frame mounted take the springs windup torque and forces the rear axle down into the pavement.

 From traction Master's Website. Total fusion and maximum strength is not a function of MIG welding but the of the Weld operator. Sensationalism hype.
• Metal Active Gas Welds

All bars are MAG (Metal Active Gas) welded for total fusion
and maximum strength. MAG gases enables optimum fusion with characteristics of moderate to high weld metal deposition rates.

I get how it keeps the axle's position relative to the frame, got that from the beginning. How does it force the axle down?

As the pinion climbs up the ring gear under power it bends the springs that is what causes wheel hop the spring bends and unwraps. Ladder bars take that ring and pinion torque and push up on the body which creates the opposite effect pushing down on the axle. I used Ansen Ladder bars and traction bars in the old days. The rear of my vehicles would rise up in 1st and 2nd. My Stang with Ansen Traction Bars in the quarter would lift the rear 3 inches and the front due to lock down shocks would wheelie about 3 inches in the front. Making for a tire smoking quick ride with all that weight pushing the slicks down into the pavement.
