grille interchangablity?

I've asked this before, couldn't find it in the searches.

how interchangable are the grilles from each year? I kinda wanna try out a 69 on my 71. thanks.

The lower valance has a bigger opening around the turn signal on the newer style but will work with the early (before 70) and upper is a little different around the hood latch can't remember the difference but I think it is on the FORDification home page somewhere...

'70-'72 grilles can be interchanged on your truck as a complete assembly. The '70 grille shell is different from the '71-'72 style. The '71-'72 grille inserts are interchangeable between those two years.

'67-'69 grilles can be also bolted on, though there might be a mounting hole or two that'll have to be drilled into the front of the inner fender. If you go to mount one of these, you'll see where the holes needs to be drilled. Also, as Thunderfoot mentioned, the lower valance is different between the two ('67-'69 vs. '70-'72). The front turn signal indicator for the '70-'72 grilles is wider, so the notch in the lower valance is wider to compensate. You can use an early grille on a later valance, but not vice-versa. If you go to put a later grille on an early truck, you'll also have to use the later valance panel.
