lower pieces of frame cross members?

Post by zakt »

I pulled the lower pieces off the back cross support by the leaf hangers and they are rusted all up on top of them. I will be bolting those back in with grade 8 bolts. I was thinking though when the frame is sand blasted and powder coated how do they get up in under those and clean off the rust and powder coat them (most likely they dont  ). Thinking I might pull all the lower pieces off the other 2 crossmembers in the front and get them sandblasted and powder coated seperately then bolt them all back in?? thoughts?

In my experience if you want that much care and detail to correct a problem you either have to specifically request it, which usually increases the price, or do it yourself. You can pay someone to do work for you but not too many people will look at your project and treat it as their own. :2cents:

Keith has some pics of his frame where they missed spots. I would go for the seperate idea.

I will be pulling the lower pieces, just takes more time with 8 rivets per piece to remove. Then I will know all the rust has been removed and it has been powder coated everywhere. All the body mounts are already removed to get powder coated individually also.

Yeah, it's been my experience with powdercoating that the nooks and crannies don't get covered...the powdercoating gets blown out. Granted it'll be a lot more work removing rivets to separate the pieces, but the end result will be definitely worth it, I think.
