We did use the same parts with minor changes across many years. The F100 and F150 changed more to get lighter but the 250s and 350s changed more for reliability under full load than for weight savings and mileage.

re: F350 disc conversion update

Post by irelandmc »

My '67 F250 front drums work (after many hours of cussing), but they are really worn pretty bad. I'm hoping to do a disc conversion, but I'm not finding anyone saying this is possible with 4x4 as it is with 2x4's.

Has anyone had the experience of doing a disc conversion on the front of a 4x4 f250?

Do I need to just find a donor and give it a shot? Will I be OK all the way up to '79 for my donor? '77? Any guesses?

does anyone know if the 80's f350 parts are usable on 69 f-250's??i have a 81 f-350 i will be parting out from cab forward 400 c-6 disk brake if disks will fit my 69 i will try it
i have a '69 f-250 camper special that im putting back to orginal condition.it is taking a long time to do but it is my hobby..this website has been of great value on looking for the correct parts and i have came across a very good way to remove rust from parts without damage to the part ..it takes time but no abrasives to wear off the numbers or castings!!

The F250 and 350 has removable caliper brackets and no reason to change the bolt hole spacing of the axle brake flanges gives a high chance of fitting. If they do let us know as it would be important upgrade info. The 350 uses dual pistons and the 250 uses single. You will need to have a true proportioning valve to adjust the front stopping power so it does not overpower the truck's rear brakes.

Wow, good thread, I'm heading to the junkyard tomorow to pull a complete front end and now it looks like I'll be pulling (or cutting) the spindle assy instead. I'm getting power steering and disc brakes for reworking the yards C60 Chevy wrecker deck so it works correctly. According to keiths resource page I'll only need to be concerned with wheel stud diameter now. My curiosity is whether Ford made any non dual wheel 350 bumps?

I'll try to get some pics when I go.

Yes, Ford made single rear wheel F350 bumps. I've never seen one, but they are in the 1970 books.

Single wheel 350s had no more capacity than a 250 8900 GVW so they were not too popular.

Cool, made it out today and got the brake setup off of a '74 F250 camper special supercab. Dual piston calipers with a bracket that bolted to the spindle. Popped the proprtioning valve and mastercylinder as well. Hardest part was jacking the truck up without it sliding down hill and draggin all the parts across the mountain to the truck, darn rotors are HEAVY. Pics are over on the general discussion side

I think that F250 and F350 2WD front ends are similar up to '97, just before the new Superduty. I've have never looked closely. Mayvbe somebody here knows more.

Just a clarification here:
Will the hub and rotor/caliper combo from a 78/79 F250 be a direct bolt on to a '69 F250, 7500# GVWR?
Are there any issues with the size of the hub bearings not being the same?
Also, what about the soft hose? Will the hose from my '69 F250 screw into the caliper from the 78/79 F250, or will I have to change that, and then the brake hose brackets as well?
Forgive me, please. I am ignorant but seek enlightenment.

On my F350 stuff, the outer bearing was different, the inner was same. I think you need new rubber hoses and brackets. I've only messed with F350 DWR stuff. Others here have said that the F350 and F250 front ends are the same.

FLATBEDFORD:

You say the outer bearing was different but your original post indicates the rotor/hub went right on. Does that mean you were able to identify an outer bearing that did work for the disk rotor/hub on the drum spindle??

Please clarify that for us!!

Thanks,
