Manual Steering box replacement advice

Post by slucent »

Does anyone have any idea if there is a post out there anywhere that goes over in detail replaving ther manual steering box on a 68 F100 with a 360?
If not, can ANYONE At all add ANY pointers!? It appears to be straight forward, but as I am finding, nothing really IS all that straight forward! HAHA

Any advice is WELCOME!

Thanks!

1) Loosen the steering column at it's two mounting points: under the dash and at the firewall.
2) Remove the column-to-ragjoint bolts, and then slide the steering column away from the steering box, up into the cab. (It won't be very much.)
3) Using a tierod separator or pickle fork, remove the drag link from the Pitman arm.
4) Remove the steering box-to-frame bolts and remove steering box.
5) If you're keeping the existing rag joint, remove it from the old steering box and transfer it to the new.
6) Reinstall in reverse order of removal.

I'm leaking oil out the seal and down the pitman arm. Do I need to pull the box to replace that shaft seal? Any pointers?

Thanks!
