removal of grill inserts

Post by dotcentral »

I have a nice set of 71 grill inserts, except they need removed from the grill shell so I can paint them. The stainless piece looks like it snaps on, and covers the head of the screws on the right and left ends. Any tricks for removing the stainless without break something or mangling the stainless pieces?

Only other thing I can think of is to use a dremel with cut off wheel and cut the screws off. That would be a last resort.

Edit to say, Sorry this should be in the "body" section of the forum.

I did one of those several years ago, but my CRS is kicking in. IIRC those trim strips just snap on, but it's been a while so I could be mistaken. Better wait for someone else to reply who knows for sure.

It's hard to bend those stainless strips, they're pretty tough. The only way they come off is to get your fingers under the lower edge of the trim and pull the lip down away from the tab it snaps into. There are three places the strip snaps in, at each side and in the middle. IMHO, putting the strips back on without breaking anything is harder than taking them off.
