Cargo Light Install
Hi folks, purchased a cargo light and all wiring to maybe enhance my 68. Thought it would look good. Anybody out there have a picture of a truck with one already on it. Just want to get an idea of where it sits, I don't want to cut out the wrong part of the cab. Would the interior dome light get in the way of installing this? Anything I should be aware of with wiring this up? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks ![Very Happy :D](./images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif)

re: Cargo Light Install
I'll be doing this shortly on my new cab too. My old cab was already equipped with one, but since I'm switching cabs...
As far as I remember, it's a one-wire hookup. (IIRC the light grounds itself when mounted). The power wire has to run from the light to the switch on the dash and then to a small 3-way power splitter wire just behind the instrument cluster. I'll have to look to be sure though...it's definitely been a while since I removed one. It just gets mounted dead center in that slight depression above the rear window:

re: Cargo Light Install
Fits in the middle of the cab above the rear window. No problem with the dome light clearence.

Thanks Keith and Heep, just waiting for it to get a little warmer up here and then start cutting away. The measurements will be a great help. ![Very Happy :D](./images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif)

re: Cargo Light Install
I am looking for the dimensions from a seam or other reference point up and down to install the cargo light on the cab.

Template?
Will the gasket (the inside hole that is) work as a template for the hole, or does the hole need to be smaller than that?

re: Cargo Light Install
I've been thinking about doing this to my '70 also. where can I find one? I've been looking through all the usual catalogs and they all just sell the gasket, bezel, and lens but they don't sell the actual fixture.
on a side note, can't it just be spliced in to the enterior dome light? I know it will come on everytime you open the door but a lot of late model fords do that. I guess it could be a security measure at night in a dark parking lot.

re: Cargo Light Install
I have purchased a couple cargo lights and a harness and switch for my truck off eBay.
You need to watch as they are not on all the time. I read that the cargo light used for 67-72 trucks came from another Ford vehicle, maybe a T bird mid 60's? Anyway you might look for a backup light or cargo light and see what is available. There are lot of cargo lights available, some later models include the 3rd brake light, drilling holes in the cab then not being able to seal it properly is my concern with using a none stock unit.
The cargo light could be connected to the cab light. If I were to connect one that way I would make a bridge and not cut the stock harness. I've also thought about putting a cargo light/3rd brake on the tail gate or somewhere else in the back. Often need light when hooking up trailer, etc. and not having it is a pain. If you go non stock post some pictures, I would like to see how it turned out. Good luck.
